We were delighted to have two talented sisters, Ru Qi and Ru Shan, to perform with the Penang Philharmonic Orchestra in our last concert, "Romances". As a state orchestra, we are proud to embrace musicians from all walks of life, and their presence brought great energy and artistry to our ensemble.

Here are their self-introductions:
RU QI
"My name is Ru Qi and I am 15 year. I play the violin, piano, drums and ukulele. I enjoy wood carving, origami, and baking in my spare time. My favourite composer is Edvard Grieg, who wrote Peer Gynt.
I recently enjoyed performing as part of the FOBISIA 2025 orchestra, which involved the congregation of students from 15 different schools, conducted by Jonathan Mann.
But I enjoyed playing with the Penang Philharmonic the most! I loved the Swan concerto because it was fun to play (and very dramatic).
I love Penang and look forward to visiting and playing as much as I can."
RU SHAN
"I am Ru Shan and I am 13. I live in Hong Kong and I play the violin, piano and trumpet. I love to crochet and my favourite composer is John Powel.
The Penang Philharmonic orchestra is full of talented and welcoming musicians and I loved playing in a different environment in contrast to my school orchestra, and Penang has the best food!"
We look forward to seeing more of their musical journey and welcoming them back to Penang in future performances.
